The deal, announced Tuesday, is pending approval from both the second-tier league and the U.S. Soccer Federation. Financial terms were not released.

Fernandez earned his contract after a two-month trial with the club, which included an appearance in a preseason friendly against New Mexico United. He played soccer at a youth level before a serious injury at age 15 forced him to shift his focus to acting.

“No matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart,” Fernandez said in a statement. “I’m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC — the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates — for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.”

El Paso Locomotive head coach Junior Gonzalez praised the addition, calling Fernandez a strong attacking option who also brings passion and leadership to the locker room.

The USL Championship is the second tier of the American soccer pyramid, positioned directly below Major League Soccer.
