Tariq Lamptey has parted ways with Fiorentina following a mutual agreement to end his contract with the Serie A side.
The 25-year-old defender joined Fiorentina from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, but his time in Italy was cut short after making only two appearances for the club.
The Ghana international suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee in September, just weeks after his arrival in Florence.
Both of his appearances for Fiorentina occurred in September, when he came off the bench for brief cameos against Napoli and Como. He picked up the ACL injury during the match against Como on September 21 and was subsequently unable to feature in any matchday squad again, totaling just 25 minutes of playing time for the club.
In September, Fiorentina released a statement describing his injury as a “complex medical situation.”
Lamptey has struggled with fitness setbacks since rising to prominence in the Premier League. He joined Brighton from his boyhood club Chelsea in January 2020.
Although the right-back agreed to a one-year contract extension with Brighton in June, he slipped down the pecking order at the Amex Stadium under manager Fabian Hürzeler.
Lamptey has earned 11 caps for Ghana, but his last appearance for the Black Stars was in October 2024. Ghana has been placed in Group D for this summer’s World Cup, with matches scheduled against Panama (June 18), England (June 23), and Croatia (June 27).
