Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has been sidelined for several weeks after suffering a muscle injury, putting his participation in the upcoming World Cup on home soil in serious doubt. The 25-year-old picked up the injury during Wednesday’s Champions League semifinal second-leg against Paris Saint-Germain (1-1). According to the club, he sustained a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh.
As captain of the Canadian national team, Davies will miss Bayern’s final two Bundesliga matches against VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Köln, as well as the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart on May 23. Canada kicks off their World Cup campaign on June 12 in Toronto against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but Davies has not played for his country since March 2025 due to ongoing injury issues.
Since returning in December from a cruciate ligament tear with cartilage damage, this marks Davies’ third muscle injury. In 23 appearances for Bayern this season, he has contributed one goal and five assists, averaging just 37 minutes per game. Against PSG, he was substituted on in the 67th minute for Josip Stanisic and set up Harry Kane’s stoppage-time equalizer, though he could not prevent the team’s Champions League exit.
